File 2020a is taken from the poor book dated 1730 to 1769 and lists ‘disbursements’. It refers to the 1733 or 1734.

This page provides an example of how poor relief was sometimes provided in the form of employment and that the Church House was used as a place of work. Most people lived in thatched cottages of house fires were relatively common and could have been the cause of John Brooks injuries. The records often include the cost of dealing sick and injured people but this reference hints at the form of treatment. The people providing the treatment were sometimes also the recipients of poor relief so the ‘doctoring’ may have been what we now call nursing.
