Social Club

Social ClubThe Social Club in Lower Street was built in the early 1900’s using materials salvaged from the Methodist Chapel built between the Harptrees. The Ancient Order or Foresters had been formed a few years before and the Co-operative shop was opened at about the same time. The Village Hall across the road was built later. It is the home of the skittles team and it was originally a working mens club but it allowed Women members in the 1970s who formed a skittles team.
The 1794 map is not clear about what is on the site but 1840 map shows there was a blacksmith’s shop on the site which was run by Charles Curtis.
