Coles

Mary the daughter of William Cole was christened in Chewton Mendip on 23/5/1623. The Coles family have left their name in the village in the form of Coles farm and two Coles Lane.

Mary Cole was in receipt of poor relief starting in 1730  and members of the family appear as both recipients and payers of poor rates.

Louisa Coles was living at Emborrough farm when her sons, Ernest and Harvey,  attended Chewton Mendip school in 1889 and this is the most recent record so far discovered.
