Samuel Cross’s wife was  given poor relief by Chewton Mendip in 1730. She may have been Elizabeth who was the mother of two illegitimate children in the 1730s. Page 2020b shows how her call on the parish led to her eviction from the village.

Other members of the family appear in a happier light. Goodeth Cross of Chewton married John Clarke of Ubley on 08/1/1734-35 in Chewton Mendip.
