Lacey

Rachel Dowling of Ston Easton married John Lacey of Farrington in Chewton Mendip on 24/12/1739. The Dowling family had strong ties with Chewton Mendip which may explained why Rachel was married in Chewton Mendip but both Ston Easton and Farrington were subsidiary chapels of Chewon Mendip at the time. John Lacey may have absconded because a warrant was paid for to arrest somebody called Lacey in 1754.
There are other references to the Lacey family in the 18th century churchwarden and poor law book. A John Lacey may have been apprenticed to Mr Yorke’s estate in 1759.
