Stockhill
Stockhill close to Priddy but it is part of Chewton Mendip. It is not shown in the 1794 map but it formed part of the Middlesex tithing. It is now mainly covered by conifer plantations but it was once part of the mining area. |
The name may come from the Stocker family who were holding land in Chewton Mendip in the 18th and 19th centuries. A map dated in the early 19th century shows what is now a footapath shown on the right was called Stockers way. The 1840 map shows that the area was called Stockhill at that time. |
