Bull

The Bull family were responsible for an estate in Chewton Mendip in the 18th and mya have been the source of the name of Bull Acre. A Robert Bull  was a churchwarden  in 1728 probably died c 1743 because Mary Bull was paying poor rates his property c1744. Both churchwarden’s accounts and the 18the century  poor book show that the Bull family were responsible for the Burges estate in the East End tithing. Mary may have been the Mrs Bull who was paid for curing Richard Hill’s leg in 1749.
Ann Bull of Paulton married William Jones in Chewton Mendip on 27/4/1730. She may have been the mother of the errant John Jones who abandonded his wife.
John Bull was listed as an overseer in The Chewton Mendip Vestry Book of 1778
A Robert Bull was buried ‘by the parish’ in 1786 which suggests that he was poor.
