A mr  Ryder or Rider was paying rates family relate to Wicombe in the 1750s and 1760s but no other reference to the family in Chhewton Mendip has yet been found

The 18th century churchwarden accounts and poor-law records show Mr Ryder was paying rates for an estate called ‘Sherborne‘
