Chancellor

There is a relatively complete picture of the Chancellor family  who lived in Chewton Mendip in the 18th century.
Edith Padfield of Emborough married to Richard Chancellor  on 25th April 1731. He died and was buried on 28 February 1733/34  and she was given poor relief from that time onwards as recorded in The poor book dated.  Their son, also called Richard, was baptised on  12th May 1734 when she as described as a widow. She was buried on 21st Nov 1780 and her funeral was probably paid for by the parish.
Another Richard Chancellor married Martha Langley in Chewton Mendip on 3rd of April 1738. He may have died on 5th August 1783 which is the most recent date for that family in Chewton Mendip although members of the family lived in other villages nearby.
