Cramphoine
A John Cramphoine married Ann Dowling of Chewton on 14 Aug 1732. The Dowling family were well established in Chewton Mendip but Mr Cramphoine, and especially his name, is a bit of a mystery. Nothing like Cramphoine appears in any other record but an example of his name is shown in the page about the Rosewell family. |
Mr Cramphoine was paying poor rates for a number of properties in Chewton Mendip in the 1730s but left no other trace. Ann was listed in a lease dated 1740 suggesting that John had died by then. The lease may have been for part of Dowling’s Farm or a building near by. |
