Lasper

The Lasper/Laspor family were based in the Harptrees but at least one member of the family was paying poor rates to Chewton Mendip in the 18th century. William Sperring Lasper, the son of William and Ann Lasper was baptised in East Harptree on 20 Feb 1776. His middle name is significant because Sperrings Green is one of the longest established place names in Chewton Mendip although the Sperring family rarely gets a mention.

The Lasbury name was much more common and it is possible that both names are derived from the same source.
