Webbs Paddock

Webbs Padocks were fields involved in the sale of parts of Parsonage Farm in 1785. The Hampshire Archive holds a list of properties which were offered for sale and the people who were renting the land at the time. Each field is given a number which corresponds to a map which has yet to be found. Lower Webbs Paddock was number 29, Middle Webbs Paddock was 31 and Upper Webbs Paddock was listed as number 32. Chewton Close was number 30.
The Webb family were well established in Chewton Mendip and there are references to them in  18th century churchwarden and poor law accounts paying rates for an estate that in various parts of the parish. One branch of the Webb family were based in Widcombe but there was also  Webb’s estate in the Town tithing that was taken over by a member of the Dowling family.
Webbs paddocks are not shown on the 1766  or map 1794 map.
