Hares

John Hares a ‘grover’ or miner of Chewton Mendi gave evidence in 1740 that a John Jones stole his shoes. Various embers of the Hares family appeared in the records of Chewton Mendip until the modern era.

There are some references to the family in the 18th century churchwarden and poor law records.

George Hares was living in Cutlers Green when his children attended Chewton Mendip school in the late Victorian era.
