Bathway Cottage 494

Gait Bathway 1740Plot 324,or possibly just the buildings which may have been numbered 484 and 485,  in the 1794 map was occupied by John Savidge in in 1740 and  John Gait in 1754. The plot is in Bathway on the boundary between the Town, West End and Middlesex tithings. It may have been a  farm but John’s sons were later identified as blacksmiths.
The family lived in other buildings in the area and the 18th century churchwarden accounts and poor-law records make frequent references to the family.
There was at least one building still standing in 1839 when it was in plot 494.
